We are very sorry to announce that on June 12, after his third stroke, Vladimir Mikhailovich Kuzmin, the developer and creator of the legendary Soviet synthesizer Polivoks, passed away.
There is a trend, especially in the secondary market, to refer to any synthesizer from the past as “legendary,” but Polivoks and Kuzmin himself are truly legendary.
In fact, Vladimir Mikhailovich, along with other developers and his wife, Olympiada, were pioneers in the creation of mass-produced electronic musical instruments. Let’s skip the part about the instrument’s sound, as it’s a subjective matter.
However, the phenomenon of having a synthesizer and a team of synthesizer developers in the USSR at the Formant factory, as well as the unexpected popularity of the Polivoks abroad, is truly worth attention.
